The 1970's decade began with Ford opening a new truck plant in Kentucky near Louisville. Trucks that were manufactured at this plant became known as the Louisville Line and included medium, heavy, and extra heavy-duty trucks. This series became one of the most popular truck series in Ford's production history.
Despite the government fuel economy, emissions, and safety standards that were mandated to automobile manufacturers in the 70's, most either did not apply to trucks or were not as strict.
For the 1970 year, the grille got a grid pattern look and parking lights were wraparound, rear side markers were moved. The trim packages that were offered were Custom, Sports Custom Cab, and the new top of the line trim package was the Ranger XLT.
