The story of the 1966 Ford Thunderbird dates to the early 1950s when Ford Motor Company aimed to create a prestigious personal luxury car that would rival the likes of Cadillac and Buick. Introduced in 1955 as a two-seater convertible, the Thunderbird instantly captured the attention of the public with its distinctive styling and exceptional performance.
By 1966, the Thunderbird had undergone several transformations, transitioning from a sporty two-seater to a larger, four-seater model without compromising its elegance. The 1966 version boasted a longer wheelbase, giving it a more commanding presence on the road. It featured a redesigned front grille, taillights, and chrome accents, further enhancing its aesthetic appeal.
This 1966 Thunderbird is great value for any classic car driver. It has undergone a complete restoration and also had some upgrades for modern convenience and performance. The exterior is the original white color and exhibits no visible flaws. The chrome brightwork is excellent and has no rust or scratches. Body is straight and solid and all-steel. Other features are the sequential taillights and dual exhaust. The whitewall tires are in very good condition and have plenty of tread. The roomy trunk is solid and has been relined with the original Thunderbird mat. Also included is a spare tire and the original jack.
The white leather bucket seat console interior is in great shape and has no rips, stains, or tears. The front bucket seats have new white leather upholstery and that was added in the past year. The instrumentation panel is in very good condition and all gauges are in good working condition and display oil pressure, fuel level, coolant temperature, amperage, and a horizontal-sweep 120 mph speedometer. Windows have manual cranks and are easy to roll up and down. Other features are vent windows, embroidered floor mats that feature the Thunderbird emblem, tilt/swing away steering wheel (also known as fat mans steering wheel), factory AC that blows COLD, and the original AM radio that is in good working condition. A nice addition is the aftermarket cruise control for easy driving.
The engine is the original 390 CID and has been rebuilt and upgraded with a Holly Sniper EFI and a new battery. The automatic transmission with overdrive shifts easily with no slippage. The engine runs strong and does not smoke or leak. All mechanics have been very well-maintained and in the past year, work that was completed was an oil change, a tune up, transmission fluid change, radiator flush and fluid change, new master cylinder and booster pump, new front and rear brake lines. Overall, this car is very mechanically sound and runs extremely well.
The vehicle comes with the original Thunderbird Owner's Manual, 1966 Thunderbird Shop Manual, and a clear title. You can view this great 1966 Ford Thunderbird by appointment only. It resides with the private owner in Mississippi. All reasonable offers will be seriously considered.
